Slave Schedule Search
The concept for this site is to allow users to search slave schedules (the primary means of documentation for Black Americans prior to 1870) using parameters of age, gender, and racial identity, in order to identify the potential slaveowners of a slave ancestor unnamed on a pre-1870 census.
The advantage of being able to identify your ancestors’ slaveowners is the direction towards additional information through a slaveowner’s family or plantation.
Knowing a potential slaveowner’s name helps researchers understand name origins, allows unnamed slaves and their stories to be identified, and reinforces accountability for slavery.
